Today’s inspiration comes from Wikibon’s infographic about the sexiest job of the next decade: the data scientist. Many planners already collect, analyze, interpret and leverage data in their current positions. With a bit of brushing up on the technology side, an alternative urban planning career path could be a Data Scientist position.
If you’re interested in exploring a career as a data scientist and haven’t seen a z-score since college, I’d start by brushing up with Head First Statistics. If you do multiple regression models for fun on the weekends, you might check out R, the hot language for statistical computing.
